Flu Treatment

When you’re sick and suspect you have the flu, take the proper measures to help you recover and feel better. In most cases, the flu won’t require seeking medical care. However, medical treatment is vital if symptoms aren’t improving or you’re at higher risk for other health complications.

Come to Modern Urgent Care in the Central California Valley to receive a comprehensive influenza diagnosis and treatment. We’ll help you get the treatment you need to feel better.

Flu Symptoms

Flu symptoms can appear suddenly. You could start feeling sick in one or up to seven days after contracting the virus. Common symptoms you could experience include:

  • Fever
  • Chills
  • Sore throat
  • Stuffy or runny nose
  • Cough
  • Fatigue
  • Body or muscle aches

Note that not all people with the flu will get a fever, but they could feel feverish. An adult’s fever is usually lower than a child’s. Additionally, children are more likely to experience vomiting or diarrhea while having the flu.

Flu Treatment for Adults

The flu is contagious, so once you notice your symptoms aren’t subsiding, it’s time to get treatment. You can visit an urgent care center to be officially diagnosed with flu symptoms and receive treatment. Your provider may prescribe antiviral medication to help relieve symptoms and shorten your sick time. Besides reducing how long you’re sick and making your symptoms milder, antivirals may also help prevent further complications caused by the flu, like pneumonia.

Flu Treatment for Children

Kids are susceptible to catching the flu because of their proximity to each other in school and their tendency to touch everything and put their hands near their faces. When your child is experiencing flu symptoms and the things you’ve done at home haven’t helped, take them to urgent care.

We can diagnose your child’s condition and prescribe the necessary treatment and medication, like plenty of rest, drinking liquids and taking antiviral medicine. While some medications aren’t intended for younger children, some flu treatments for toddlers may include oseltamivir, which is approved for young kids.

Your child’s provider will do everything possible to help your child get over the flu and feel better.
